Our First Photography Showcase at POP!

POP Studio recently hosted its first Summer Photography Showcase with Pensacola Film Photo Walk and Geoff Peck, and we couldn’t have asked for a better response.

We created the showcase to celebrate local artists, bring people together, and give photography a place to live beyond the screen. We chose “Heat” as the theme and invited artists to interpret the word through their own creative perspectives.

The response immediately impressed us.

Roughly 35 artists submitted images for consideration. We saw photographers approach the theme in completely different ways. Some images captured the literal heat of summer, while others explored emotion, color, light, movement, and atmosphere.

From those submissions, we selected 15 images for the exhibition.

Choosing only 15 images from such a talented group challenged us. Every artist brought something different to the table. The final collection showcased a wide range of styles and perspectives, and each image gave visitors another way to interpret the theme.

Bringing the Showcase To Life

POP Studio partnered with Pensacola Film Photography Walk and Geoff Peck to create the Summer Showcase.

We both invested a significant amount of time, energy, and creativity into the project. We planned the exhibition, Geoff got in contact with some incredible judges, prepared the space, and worked through all the details that helped bring the event together.

The Summer Showcase was about having a night of community and viewing prints rather than people scrolling through photographs on their phones.

We wanted people to stop, look, talk, and experience the work in person. We figured Gallery Night in Pensacola would be perfect for the opportunity. Since we live in one of the hottest places in the continental U.S. why not go with a Heat theme?

We wanted artists to connect with their community and see their work spark conversations. We also wanted visitors to discover the incredible talent that exists throughout the Pensacola area.

On showcase night, the community gave us exactly what we hoped for.

Pensacola Showed Up for Local Art

Approximately 150 people walked through POP Studio during the showcase.

Artists, photographers, friends, families, creatives, and art lovers gathered to admire the work and celebrate the people behind it. People talked about their favorite images, connected with other creatives, and took time to experience the artwork up close.

That turnout meant a lot to us.

It showed us that our community wants opportunities to experience and support local art. More importantly, it showed us how much talent already exists right here in Pensacola.

Three Judges Awards

We also invited our judges to select three standout images from the exhibition.

Each award gave us another opportunity to recognize the artists who brought something memorable to the theme. Our judges faced a tough decision after reviewing such a strong group of submissions.

The three judges awards went to Josh Warner, Rhayelle Spann, and Mel Ibanez.

We loved seeing the different perspectives each winning image brought to “Heat.” Each artist interpreted the theme in a way that felt personal and distinct.

A Celebration of Pensacola’s Creative Community

Our first Summer Showcase gave us much more than an exhibition.

Thirty-five artists trusted us with their work. We selected 15 images for the show. Three artists received judges awards. Around 150 people walked through our doors to celebrate local creativity.

Those numbers tell one part of the story.

The people behind those numbers tell the bigger story.

Pensacola has an incredible creative community. Photographers, artists, designers, filmmakers, makers, and other creatives continue to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to our area.

Summer Showcase gave us a chance to put some of that talent on the walls and invite the community to experience it together.

We’re incredibly grateful to every artist who submitted work, everyone who attended, and everyone who helped us bring the showcase to life.

Most importantly, we hope this first Summer Showcase marks the beginning of something bigger.

We can’t wait to see what our creative community brings to the next one.
